About Discovery Wines

Voted Best NY Wine Shop, 2010
-Village Voice

We carry wines for grand occasions and the most humble of budgets. But what we enjoy the most are wines that have character and personality, and that express that sense of place the French call terroir. Many of the wines we carry are from small production artisanal producers working with a strong respect for the land they farm. Organic farming is common and so is an approach to wine making that eschews heavy-handed manipulation in the cellar.

At Discovery Wines you can always find a great budget bottle that tastes great and costs little. And if you’re interested in looking beyond the established brands, we would love to help you discover these wines we love.

Andrew - Assistant Manager

Andrew currently hails from Washington Heights. Born and raised in Northern California and Mexico City, he grew up on Tequila and Napa Cabs. After a quick stop in Boston for some schooling, he landed in NYC in 2005 pursuing Theater and Wine.

Wine won.

After a couple of wine shops to cut his teeth in retail and a layover in Oregon's Willamette Valley to make some wine, Andrew has excitedly landed at Discovery Wine in East Village. Thanks to James and Ben for the opportunity.

Ben - Store Manager

Ben grew up in a small town in Southeastern Pennsylvania, an area of the country still burdened by state-run wine & liquor stores. Although food and the family table had played a formative role in his upbringing, it wasn't until Ben's junior year at Sarah Lawrence College that he developed a taste for wine. It added romance and flair to his measly college meals and eased his growing concerns about pursuing a degree in poetry. Four years later, the glass is still half full, but the notepad and pen are gathering dust.
