2022 is the first available vintage of this wine, whose name is German for “second home.”
Grapes: Silvaner
Vineyard: Single-plot in Rödelsee; old vines planted in 1989 on Keuper bedrock.
Making of (2022): Grapes are destemmed and crushed, then left to macerate on skins for ten days where fermentation begins slowly. Wine is pressed and fermentation continues in a large oak barrel, where it is aged until racking into a tank for bottling — 32 months of aging in total.
Personality (winemaker’s note): “The wine features noticeable yet soft tannins, lively acidity, and aromas of pear and herbs. It’s a complex yet approachable orange wine with excellent aging potential.”
